Let's make one thing clear. Ukraine is not Afghanistan. There is no mountainous terrain where Ukrainian "Mujahadeen" can fire stinger missiles at Russian helicopters and then hide. It's flat, open country, and no amount of American-made weapons would lead to a "bloody and prolonged Ukrainian resistance".
The situation there is a civil war, with a mixed population and same kind of problems Britain had in Northern Ireland. The contest is over territory that was part of the Soviet Union for 70 years, ruled from Moscow for during the Czarist era, and traded back and forth with Russian kingdoms since the Middle Ages.
Conservative chickenhawks like Krauthhammer have only one agenda here, to embarrass the Commander-in-Chief during an on-going crisis, so they can win a few more seats in Congress, so they can pass a few more tax cuts for millionaires.
That's all there is to it.

Your message is so pitiful that it is an intense reminder of why I passionately despise liberals.
As I've said many times, if liberal doctrine only affected liberals, I could live with that. I would even welcome it. People that are that deluded deserve to wallow in their leftist muck.
But, as Obama continues to prove, liberal stupidity affects everyone. In the past, "everyone" was limited to Americans. Now, Obama's weakness, incompetence, ineptitude, and stupidity have become so widespread, intense and blatant that it is negatively affecting and destabilizing the world as a whole.
Obama is a walking disease. Come to think of it, he doesn't walk.....he struts, trying and failing miserably to look like he knows what he's doing. Obama doesn't talk.....he preaches. He doesn't explain.....he lies. He doesn't admit.....he deceives. Transparent?! Obama hides, destroys or redacts every bit of documentation that proves that he and his administration are rotten to the core.
How a lowlife incompetent like Obama slithers his way into American politics is one of the great mysteries of our time. I never would have thought that there could ever be enough stupid, ignorant, and uninformed voters to put this rodeo clown in office and then vote again a second time to keep him there.
Liberals love pain, even when it's their own. Why else would anyone turn a toothless, anti-American, mongrel dog into President of the United States?
My apologies to mongrel dogs.

BTW In case nobody's noticed, Obama, Kerry, et al. are getting very slim support from the Europeans, particularly from Germany. And for good reason. Maybe North America's short spurt of new petroleum could fill in for Russia's eventually but everybody in Germany, Ukraine, et al. would be frozen before the infrastructure were in place. And would you want to invest in Ukrainian infrastructure?
No, it's not the administration's tardiness in providing military assistance but its precipitous challenge without anything to back it up that was lame.

Much of Putin's aggression and timing may have come from the fact that he understands the psyche of the American citizen.
President Obama didn't simply hand over the decision on Syria to Congress because he thought that is the right path, otherwise he would have done the same prior to intervening in Libya. There was a stir in the air, the American public was/is tired of these interventions...tired of being at perpetual war. They let their representatives know how they/we felt.
Putin understands this, as well as C9's mention of the EU being unwilling to jump in due to their dependence on Russia's energy supply and the effect a disruption would have on their economies.
I don't believe there is a whole lot the President can bring to bear that will change what is happening on the ground in Ukraine.

Watching German news tonight on KCET, I learned a thing or two. If the academic expert from a German institute on Eastern Studies knows what he is talking about, there are factors I didn't know and which cast a different light on Obama/Merkel's stance, which tonight looked like a vague pledge of unity.
According to this local (to German) economist, Russia's economy is not good, is in recession, is indebted and not able to muster a lot of economic resources. Putin has sent the Ukrainians an outrageous bill to be settled by the end of May and Kiev is prepared to pay only at a lower rate.
But if Russia shut off the tap, it would suffer as well because of their financial position.
If they took over in E. Ukraine they too would suffer because they would have to raise the wages of Ukrainians to that of Russians.
Russians could turn to China and the two nations have been making overtures. However, the amount of new intrastructure needed to be completed for this union in a very short period of time is too great to be a real threat.
In brief, the sanctions path is actually not a bad strategy. Certainly not as lame as I originally thought.
Despite this columnist's knee jerk anti-Obamaism, this is not just appeasement of the bully, Putin, but a sensible tightening of some real screws based on some economic realities.
The trick is to keep the trouble on the ground from precipitating something really bad for US or our allies.

They could have raised the income tax rate on the rich.
I am not giving the Republicans a pass here, but sometimes I believe the Democrats play this game of delay, and when the situation(2010 elections) changes, they play the get out of jail free card by blaming the Republicans. Hell, Democrats have rich friends too.

Well I can tell you this, those that don't pay the freight never think it's expensive. The top rate in this state is now 14% plus nearly 40% federal plus a new Obamacare tax of almost 4%. That's almost 60%, fair share? I think it's more than enough but I'm sure those that don't have to pay rate like that feel it's not enough right?

My point was, with approximately 72,000 pages of tax code, rife with kickbacks brought on by buying a $35,000 plate of food, nobody is paying top rate. There is so much favoritism written into the code, by both parties, it's a disaster.
Some years back it was divulged that our own Senator Fienstein paid a pittance in taxes...
We need a simple progressive tax code, sans all the gifts to the rich Left and Right.
Don't tell me flat or sales tax is the way to go...as much as this President has overused the word "fair", that should not be an option.
Just curious, why do you all repost a whole message when a simple @c9 or @wayne will suffice. Kinda crowds up the thread the way you all are doing it. Just a suggestion.
