Kathryn Scroggin announced Tuesday she will resign as superintendent of the Simi Valley Unified School District effective June 30.
She told the Board of Education at its meeting Tuesday night that she is doing so with mixed feelings.
“It has been and continues to be my distinct honor to serve as the superintendent of the Simi Valley Unified School District, a school district that is fortunate to be supported by some of the most talented teachers, support staff and administrators with whom I have ever had the privilege to work,” Scroggin said.
“I remain committed to doing whatever I can to ensure a smooth transition as we move forward together,” she said.
Scroggin said she plans to take advantage of incentives offered to district employees as part of a cost reduction effort that has sought to avoid layoffs this year.
Scroggin’s contract, which originally ran until June 2014, was extended by a 4-1 vote in October until June 2015.
Later in the meeting, board members agreed to approach the Ventura County Office of Education about contracting with it to search for Scroggin’s successor.
The only board member who commented on Scroggin’s announcement was trustee Debbie Sandland.
“I want to thank you for all you have done. I just can’t tell you how much I appreciate your service,” Sandland said.
